In this bout, I expect Dominick Guinn to provide us with a dominant performance against Monte Barrett. I cannot find one area where Guinn is not superior to Barrett. This bout may get off to a slow start, but Guinn should really come on after the early rounds. I see Barrett getting hit with many solid, clean, and effective punches throughout the fight.

I would put aside any talk that Barrett is and will be a tough test for Guinn. I felt Barrett was a weak opponent versus Mesi and I feel the same here vs Guinn. The fight Barrett had versus Mesi does not change my outlook on Barrett. His skill level remains the same.

This bout reminds me of Joe Mesi vs Davarryl Williamson all over again. I say this because many felt that Williamson was a formidable opponent for Mesi. I felt that Williamson lacked the chin needed to compete with Mesi. The only difference here is that Barrett should be able to last longer than 1 round. Actually, there is a very good chance that this fight will go some rounds because of Guinn’s patience in the ring.

I just do not like Monte Barrett, period, against very good fighters. Barrett does not box well and habitually falls behind in the scoring to fighters early. I expect Monte to become more aggressive in the middle to late rounds, but I expect Guinn to match and exceed his aggression in that time.

I really feel that Guinn has what it takes to wear Barrett down and come close to knocking Barrett out, if he doesn’t knock him out at all.

I'm not sold on Guinn yet. I'm not a huge fan of his workrate but I dont think he will have a problem with Barrett. I think Barrett is a C level fighter. I dont know if I would lay 4 to 1 on it but I dont think its a bad idea. After losing 13 grand on laying 3 to 1 maybe I'm just having some issues now.

Freak, I wanted to apologize for ripping on you for your Cotto comments. After watching his last fight it looks like you might be right about him.

Alm, all is forgotten.

I am confident that Guinn will perform well here. So confident, that should he win, I will collect 3 dimes.

Aside from the difference in skill level and fight location (Arkansas), I feel that Guinn and his team are extremely confident going into this fight. Guinn has had the opportunity to spar with Barrett on a few occassions. And it was Guinn's team that selected Barrett as an opponent. So it seems to me as if Guinn not only gets a good workout with Barrett in sparring, but shows that he is clearly the better man in the ring. After the fight with Mesi, Guinn must have been eager to put on a better performance versus Barrett.

That was just added incentive for me to go with Guinn.

This HBO card is honestly the worst Boxing After Dark card I've ever seen though. This sh!t belongs on ESPN. They're going to put this crap on but Vivian Harris vs Oktay Urkal wont be televised on April 17th. Unbelievable.

glad you guys "got right".....

i love guinn also...i expect alot of movement from barrett....don`t see him beating guinn...

i agree with almly....i`m a little surprised hbo signed off on these opponents(i understand that they were up against it with taylor`s opponents falling out).....

i guess they`re happy showcasing a couple of their upcoming stars...they are usually fairly tough on promoters regarding viable opponents...

i`m sure barrett got this fight as a result of his mesi effort.....then mesi turns around and almost chokes against jirov...

i agree....guinn..... i ain`t laying the odds,though(except in a small parlay)...outta my league...

g.l.

.first off,i`m disgusted with hbo....who are they kidding with bunema?...taylor could have finished this anytime he wanted to...

i knew that bunema was nowhere near a legit middleweight.....when they stepped into the ring,i almost choked.....taylor was SO much bigger than bunema it was a little scary....i can understand why taylor`s people didn`t want to weigh him the day of the bout...he had to be 15 pounds heavier...

hbo keeps this up and they`re gonna have a casualty on their hands....

and not one of the commentators made the point...they were to busy coming all over themselves slapping taylor on the back....

this was a mismatch....bunema got crushed by kassim ouma....the guy has 12 k.o.`s in 24 wins as a jr middleweight...what a set up...

you wouldn`t know it from listening to these guys...i was shaking my head...pure spin...

taylor`s got super talent...no question...lets start fighting legit middleweight contenders...it`s a weak division...there`s not much resistance for a guy like taylor...he doesn`t have to fight little guys...

to be fair,he was a replacement...but,it was a poor choice....somebody`s gonna get maimed if they keep pulling this stuff...

as far as guinn goes, the guy was exposed tonight....we saw him look good against bigger, slower guys like grant and dokiwari....

guinn is stiff, lacks good power, and smothers himself by stepping into his man with the jab...he doesn`t leave himself room to throw anything behind his jab...a very weird style that worked by smothering counters from bigger guys....but,left him wthout the ability to throw more than one shot at a time.......speed kills...it sure killed guinn...the guy looked like a robot..jab,jab...clinch...i thought i was watching ruiz...

i was way wrong about guinn...he`s very limited...i was very disappointed that towards the end of the fight, when it was obvious that he needed something drastic, that he didn`t seem to go all out...he appeared resigned to his fate...

congrats to barrett...that`s the best i`ve ever seen him...he was quicker and, imo, had more snap on his shots.....this will have guys like the klitschko`s angling for an easy win vs a guy that now,has that legitimizing win....of course i think one of the brothers already destroyed barrett...

i don`t think b.f. or anybody should feel bad about misreading guinn...i should have realized that i hadn`t seen him vs a quicker guy...i`m just thankful that the odds were to high for me...i could have gotten hurt if the odds had fallen in my range.....

i gave serious consideration to going under in taylor bunema but left it alone...if i had bet it,i`d have wanyted to kill taylor...he was playing with bunema...

in the guinn fight, what was that one judge thinking?....lord....do you have to live in a nursing home to judge a fight in arkansas?.....lol...
